Chapter 17

The Message of Comfort

A little way to walk with you, my own–
Only a little way.
Then one of us must weep and walk alone
Until God’s day.

A little way! It is so sweet to live
Together, that I know
Life would not have one withered rose to give
If one of us should go.

And if these lips should ever learn to smile,
With thy heart far from mine.
‘Twould be for joy that in a little while
They would be kissed by thine!

Frank L. Stanton.

God loves to be a comforter. His heart is ever tender and compassionate toward human pain and suffering. One of the great chapters of Isaiah opens with these words, “Comfort ye, comfort ye My people, saith you God.” The people were in exile, but now the period of their captivity was drawing to an end, and the messengers were sent to speak words of comfort and cheer.
